Heavy rain is causing severe flooding from Louisiana to the Great Lakes. Flood warnings were in effect Thursday across parts of the Midwest. In northern Indiana, rivers are expected to rise to nearly 15 feet over the weekend after storms sweep across the region. Some people have been forced to evacuate.
JFK chaos
Hundreds of flights at JFK Airport in New York were delayed or canceled over the weekend as severe winter weather hit the region. Workers on the Gulf Coast are cleaning up after Hurricane Nate made landfall in Louisiana and Mississippi. Eighty-five mph wind along with rain and dangerous storm surge pounded the region. As the system moved north, it brought tornadoes and strong winds to the Carolinas. Manuel Bojorquez reports.

Tropical Storm Nate is blamed for 22 deaths in Nicaragua and Honduras, and it could hit the central Gulf Coast as a hurricane over the weekend. Eric Fisher, chief meteorologist for CBS Boston station WBZ, has the latest forecast.

Emergency declarations are already in effect in Alabama, Florida and Louisiana. In New Orleans, weaknesses in the city's pumping system led to major flooding this summer after heavy rain. City officials hope the pumps can withstand this storm. Michelle Miller reports.
Trump's initial response to Maria
President Trump heads to Puerto Rico on Tuesday but is spending the weekend at his New Jersey golf club. The Washington Post reports that's also where Mr. Trump spent last weekend as well, just days after the devastation from Hurricane Maria was becoming apparent. Trump on Puerto Rico relief effort
President Trump said next Tuesday is the earliest he can visit Puerto Rico without disrupting relief operations. Mr. Trump said Puerto Rico's governor personally thanked him for the federal response, but the president had been noticeably silent about the worsening devastation in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
