Car Strikes Several People Near Vallejo Bus Stop, 1 Dead

VALLEJO (CBS SF) – A car struck several people near a bus stop in Vallejo Friday afternoon, killing a woman and injuring several pedestrians.

According to authorities, the crash took place on Sonoma Boulevard and Redwood Street around 3:30 p.m.

Medic Ambulance of Solano County tweeted these pictures of the accident scene.

Witnesses told KPIX 5 the car, a silver Nissan, left the street and went onto the sidewalk. The car hit Willie Dixon, a homeless man who was at the bus stop.

"It just came and swiped both of my feet." Dixon told KPIX 5.

The car kept going and hit 3 women and 2 children on the sidewalk. According to police, the pedestrians were dragged by the vehicle. When the car came to rest, two of the women were pinned under the car.

A tow truck driver witnessed the wreck. He used his tow truck to free two women who were trapped under the vehicle.

"I was just driving down the road and I came around the corner and saw two people stuck underneath," said Dan Stuart, the tow truck driver.

Police said one of the women trapped under the car, a 49-year-old Vallejo resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Six others were rushed to the hospital, including the 65-year-old driver from Suisun. Police said they will run tests to see if it was possibly a medical emergency or whether alcohol or drugs were involved.
