Fremont Girl Wins Novice Title At U.S. Figure Skating Championships
SAN JOSE (CBS 5) -- The next great American figure skater may be from the Bay Area.
Fremont's 12-year-old Karen Chen won the ladies' novice gold medal at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships at HP Pavilion in San Jose on Monday night.
"It just feels amazing," she told CBS 5.
She won at her first national championships by outscoring her closest competitor by a whopping 10 points.
There's high hopes that Chen could be the next women's figure skating star who can captivate the public like Michelle Kwan and Sasha Cohen once did.
