2 Charged In Shooting Of Oakland Teen Near High School
OAKLAND (AP) - Two suspected gang members have been charged with shooting a 16-year-old boy outside an Oakland school.
Authorities told the Oakland Tribune on Monday that 20-year-old Israel Calzonci and 19-year-old Ricardo Montano are each facing attempted murder and assault charges in the October 14 attack.
The teen remained hospitalized Tuesday morning. Authorities said both men have acknowledged their involvement in the shooting and have told investigators they thought the boy was a rival gang member when they opened fire outside Rudsdale Academy.
The boy was a student there and was on his way to school when he was shot around 8:36 a.m.
Police have not confirmed whether the victim is a gang member. Calzonci and Montano have also been charged in an unrelated October 7 robbery.
