Instead of the knockout, drag out fight expected of this match-up of NFL heavyweights, the Texans had no answer for the 49ers on Sunday Night. With their defense and running game leading the way, for the second straight week the 49ers dominated their opponent in an easy win.
The names on the injury report for the Texans and 49ers game this Sunday Night, is more enough to field a team. Out of the two, it's Houston who is worse off, while San Francisco has only minor concerns. If the 49ers employ a physical game plan, then injuries will play a part in this contest, as Houston simply can't withstand much more of a beating.
It makes sense for the 49ers offense to make some changes after replacing Alex Smith, this not yet. Colin Kaepernick is a completely different player with a different skill set, but with questions surrounding the passing game, the running game, for now, is still the team's bread and butter. With a full stable of backs, the coaches need to commit to the run, and worry about the passing game when they get back all their pieces.
The Houston Texans will face their second NFC West opponent in as many weeks, when they travel to Candlestick to take on the 49ers Sunday Night. Both teams are desperate for a win, have playoff aspirations, and with plenty of playmakers on both sides of the ball, this one has all the ingredients for an entertaining game.
After scoring 10 points in the past two games combined, the 49er offense finally woke up. Frank Gore and Anquan Boldin lead the way as San Francisco snapped their first losing streak under Jim Harbaugh, exacting revenge on a St. Louis team that had the 49ers number last season.
While it's hard to tell, the 49ers are slowly getting healthier. The long list of names on their injured report remains, but nothing to be alarmed about for the time being. St. Louis on the other hand is as healthy as can be heading into this pivotal game to stay out of the NFC West cellar.
With the 49ers sputtering out to a 1-2 start in 2013, everyone is trying to figure out what is wrong with the team many had picked to be the NFC representative in the Super bowl. While most theories are around the offense that has failed to put up points, the real concern is a 49ers defense that is running out of bodies.
Despite the multitude of issues surrounding the 49ers, they will still have the better team on the field Thursday Night, and if they play like they can, they will snap their first losing streak under Jim Harbaugh as well as their losing streak to the St. Louis Rams.
The defense fought hard, but in the end could not hold up. With no help from the offensive side of the ball, the defense was fighting a losing battle, and the result was another resounding loss. This time though, its to a team, that San Francisco figured to beat. While there is reason to be concerned, the 49ers will be alright, and still on track for their 2013 goals.
The scoreboard is not the only place where the 49ers were beat up this past weekend. After a relatively injury free start to the season, there are several players who now fill up the injury report, but the news is not all bad. Their opponent has two very significant injuries, and this game will not be nearly as physical as the war that was the game against Seattle.
