Vacaville Man Hit, Killed By Minivan

VACAVILLE (CBS13) – A Vacaville family is heartbroken after their loved one was killed in what may have been a simple late night errand run.

Family says 29-year-old Ryan Matthey was a landscaper who took pride in his work.

"The only thing I can fathom is he went across the street for maybe a soda," said Matthey's aunt Colleen Thornhill.

The driver of a minivan hit and killed Matthey Saturday night.  Police say Matthey wasn't in a crosswalk.

The driver stopped after the collision and is not under arrest.

Thornhill describes her nephew as an artist.

"This whole yard, everything here is a replica of Ryan," Thornhill said. "Everything you see here is his creation."

A deadly collision that's left his family in grief – and police asking for help to piece together what went wrong.

"I just think that it was a tragic, tragic accident … I don't understand why because he was such a beautiful person."

Vacaville Police say drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash.
