Raccoons rescued after falling into Tahoe area restaurant's grease trap

TRUCKEE – Two young raccoons are on the mend after they found themselves in an oily situation.

In a Wednesday post, Gold Country Wildlife Rescue says a fast food restaurant in Truckee apparently forgot to lock up their grease trap. The raccoons then fell in.

After being rescued, the raccoons were taken to the wildlife center.

Rescuers say the young animals were completely covered in grease and very stressed.

It's taken several baths to remove the grease, and rescuers say it will take a few more to completely remove it all. The raccoons are eating well now, however.

The wildlife center urges people to think about them during Giving Tuesday, or earlier.
