Storms In The East Cause Delays For Local Travelers

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Heavy snow in the east is causing serious problems for travelers across the U.S. and here in Sacramento.

The storm is making its way into the Atlantic right now northeast of the country. All of the snow has caused serious problems for travelers across the country and even in our area.

It could be a real mess for travelers trying to get on their way. On the FAA's website, there are four black dots, each one representing an airport that is closed right now. Among them: New York's JFK. The closures could have a negative ripple effect throughout the nation.

A couple of flights arriving late have pushed back departures about 20-30 minutes. Another flight departing from Sacramento International going to Ontario was delayed slightly as well, but that could just be the beginning of what could be a tough day for air travelers.

A lot of flights were canceled Sunday as the storm crippled flights across the nation. We talked to a traveler who said her connecting flight barely made it to Sacramento from the big apple.

The time for those airports to reopen in the New York area is 1 p.m., but things are very unpredictable. Call your airline and check the Internet because it will be dicey trying to get into the air and out east to this morning.

There are even more delays at San Francisco International Airport travelers arriving to
find dozens of flights to New York City, Boston and Atlanta canceled or delayed.
