Still No Arrests Made In Slaying Of Senior Couple In Davis
DAVIS (CBS13) - A former attorney and his wife were brutally murdered in their Davis home recently and their family and friends wonder if and when there will ever be an arrest.
"We could come up with one- in- a-million scenarios and maybe this is one-in-a-million, but I just can't go there," said Wayne Ginsburg, a friend of one of the victims.
CBS13 sat down with Ginsburg who says he knew something wasn't right even before officers discovered the bodies.
"His singing voice, it was just amazing," said Ginsburg.
But Ginburg's friend and bandmate, Oliver "Chip" Northup has forever been silenced.
"I wake up in the morning and 'whoops,' I'm facing the same facts of the last five days," he says.
Chip, 87, and his wife, 76-year-old Claudia Maupin were found brutally stabbed to death inside their Davis condo late last Sunday.
Ginsburg says he knew something was wrong earlier that day. They had an appearance set for their band, The Putah Creek Crawdads.
"He didn't show up for gigs on Sunday and didn't respond to phone calls," said Ginsburg.
He eventually told Claudia's daughter about his concerns and she phoned police who would make the discovery.
"They seemed to be soul mates," said Ginsburg. "They just kind of beamed in each other's company."
Nearly a week later, police have made no arrests in the case and have called in the FBI for help.
"There's just a whole lot of disbelief and denial to some to extent yet, and anger," said Ginsburg.
Family and friends are now left with questions. Why and who would take the lives of people so late in their lives. And there were signs forced entry.
"Knowing that whoever did this is brought to justice would be a very important step," said Ginsburg.
This is the first murder is Davis since 2011.
