Postmates Brings New Twist On Delivery Service To Sacramento
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A new twist on delivery service is bringing a whole new meaning to the term "open 24-7" as a Bay Area-based company promises to shuttle anything from food to dry cleaning to your door in under an hour.
Having a personal assistant in the palm of your hand will cost you, depending on how far your Postmates courier has to go.
For Roxie's Deli, speed and quality collide with Sam Fitz, a Postmates courier.
"Today my average delivery time has been about 25 minutes," he said.
Postmates is an app and web-based platform where you can order anything from lunch to a new laptop, and in an hour or less, it's delivered right to your door.
"I think there are a lot of times where you're stuck at your desk. You know, you can't get out and get lunch. Or you are in a place that's not conducive. You can't just walk around the corner," Postmates spokeswoman April Conyers said.
The added ease means feeding the bottom line for local businesses. Roxie's Deli has already seen a 40-percent increase.
"Just today, with them alone, it's probably about 60 sandwiches so far," said owner Chris Tannous.
Delivery fees start at $5 and are calculated based on the distance between you and your goods.
"We also add a 9 percent service fee onto that and that goes into operations," Conyers said.
Whatever you order has to fit in a courier's car and be able to be handled by one person. The service is only available in the immediate Sacramento area.
As far as the most bizarre order so far, the company says it was champagne and a pregnancy test.
