More Protests Greet Controversial Sacramento Church
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A controversial religious conference, drawing pastors from around the world to Sacramento this weekend, was met with protests outside the church doors.
The group "Love Is Love" countered the pastor's message that love hates.
Pastor Roger Jimenez of Verity Baptist Church first made headlines in June when a sermon of his praised the Orlando nightclub massacre.
"These people are not born that way, these homosexuals are not reproducers, they're recruiters," Jimenez said.
Jimenez said he drew people from around the country and as far away as New Zealand for his conference this weekend.
Protesters stood outside the church on Sunday to try and counter Jimenez' message.
"Stand up and love against the hate speech because it does hurt us all," said protester Beverly Kearney. "They're targeting us right now and tomorrow they could be targeting someone else."
