Man Convicted Of Shooting And Killing Neighbor In Del Paso Heights

SACRAMETNO (CBS13) - A local man has been convicted of second-degree murder in the 2013 shooting death of his neighbor.

On November 28, 2013, Avery Draughty, 32, of Sacramento, and his girlfriend were at their Del Paso Heights apartment and got into an argument with their neighbors, Tiffany Silva and Devlon Pittman, said Deputy District Attorney Jeff Hightower.

Draughty went back to his apartment, got his gun and shot Silva once, killing her. Draughty left the apartments and remained on the run for the next 17 months

When authorities caught up with Draughty, he had reportedly changed his appearance, was using fake ID and lied to police about his identity.

Sentencing is set for March 16; Draughty faces the possibility of 40 years to life in prison.
