Former Deputy Gets Life Without Parole For Murder

Former Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy Chu Vue has been sentenced to life in prison for orchestrating the 2008 killing of his wife's lover, Steven Lo.

The judge handed down the sentence this morning after tearful statements from Lo's family.  Chu Vue also spoke proclaiming his innocence and that he had nothing to do with Lo's murder.

The judge followed the juries recommendation that Vue spend the rest of his life in prison with no possibility of parole for the shooting death of Lo, who was also a state correctional officer when he was found guilty of first-degree murder.

Chu was also found guilty of being an accessory to a felony, harboring a fugitive and illegally accessing another person's data.

Vue's trial lasted more than a month and involved dozens of witnesses, phone records, bank withdrawals and surveillance video.

The prosecution claimed that Vue was jealous and had Steven Lo killed after finding out Lo was having an affair with his wife.

Thirty-nine-year-old Lo was shot in the driveway of his South Sacramento home on Oct. 15, 2008 as he was just about to leave for work. When officers arrived, they found Lo lying near his garage. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Lo worked at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville and had been a correctional officer with the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for nearly three years. He left behind a wife, three sons and two daughters.
