Boy Stabbed By Woman In Bay Area Bank Recovering After Surgery

SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities say a 12-year-old boy who was stabbed three times in the back during a bank robbery earlier this week is in stable condition following surgery.

The East Bay Times reports Wednesday that it's unclear when the boy will be discharged from the hospital. His name was not released.

Meanwhile, 32-year-old Iyona Dzshae Hammond of Oakland, California, is expected to be charged with attempted murder and robbery on Wednesday afternoon. She remains in custody. It was not immediately known if she has an attorney.

San Leandro Police Lt. Robert McManus says Hammond went into the bank Monday morning, demanded money from the boy and then stabbed him in the back three times. She also stands accused of stealing money from a customer making a deposit at the bank.

The crimes were caught on video.
