Auburn Mobile Home Park Cited For Filthy Conditions

AUBURN (CBS13) – An Auburn mobile home park is trashy, but this time the residents aren't to blame. The state says the owners must have it cleaned up within the next month.

Heather Huff says that her cabin at Glen Oaks Mobile Home Park is filled with mold and she just can't take it anymore.

From the piles of garbage to the dirty toilet outside her home to mold growing inside her home, Heather's tired of living in filth.

"This is what we have to live with," she said in tears on Monday. "Everything we own is ruined. Everything is filled with mold. This is the mold that's coming out the bottom of our couch."

It's part of a much bigger problem at the mobile home park.

"We're talking about torn-down trailers, we're talking sewage pipes laying around, we're talking paint cans that are thrown in the bushes to be covered, we're talking about rats," David Freeman said.

Freeman says he's been living with these issues for the last several years, and he can't afford to leave.

"We're people," he said. "It's hard."

He filed a complaint and the state investigated. It cited Glen Oaks for being in violation of having open sewer lines, unsafe electrical service boxes and trash in the park.

The manager says they're fixing the problems but appeared defensive when CBS13 spoke to her.

"There was no sewer issues," she said. "I don't care what was said. Somebody stole my caps off the sewer lines."

But the state says Heather's mold complaint must be handled by the county. The park manager says she offered to help clean it up, but heather would have to move, something she, too, can't afford to do.

"This is sad is what it is," she said. "It's sad."

The state says the mobile home park has 30 days to fix the problem or it could lose its license. State staff will be back in the next few days to check on the clean-up process.
