Woodland Hills Star Receives Offers From WVU, Michigan
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Stephen Puhl is a member of a very talented Woodland Hills football team. It appears as though Puhl has finally gotten noticed by some pretty big programs.
Puhl told KDKA-TV Sports that he recently received offers from both West Virginia and Michigan. Previously, Puhl had offers from Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green and Wake Forest.
"I am excited regarding how well my recruiting is going and it has been awesome visiting schools like Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Virginia Tech and Pitt," said Puhl.
Puhl went on to say, "Penn State seems to have a spiked interest. They even attended our playoff game against Bethel Park. Also, Virginia Tech visited our school this week."
But the big story is that West Virginia and Michigan offered.
West Virginia: "West Virginia is an interesting one because they use big tight ends and I only weight 230 (but I could gain 30 pounds easily). But they have converted a lot of tight ends into wide receivers in the past, making them a cool option. What excites me the most is how close the school is to home."
Michigan: "Michigan is a great tight end school. When I visited, they played Northwestern and used 5 different tight ends that game. It is also ranked as one of the top public universities in the country. This school really excites me because of Coach Harbaugh and the great academics."
When you think of Michigan, you automatically think of Harbaugh, so KDKA-TV Sports had to ask Pugh how the conversation went.
"It was a little weird at first because I saw him as a celebrity and not a coach, but he quickly impressed me with his football knowledge," said Puhl. "He also spoke with Steve Breaston, one of our coaches. He was very impressed with my blocking and explosiveness out of my routes."
"When Coach Harbaugh asked me what I like best about the position, I said blocking. He then said, 'You are the first recruit to ever say that,'" said Puhl. "I explained that I find so much enjoyment in imposing my will on another player by moving them where I want to and then pancaking them to the ground."
If Michigan and West Virginia offered, why not Pitt? KDKA-TV Sports asked him about that.
"It's in God's hands. I would love to play for my hometown team and bring back a championship for this great city. Everything happens for a reason, so I wouldn't be too upset if they do not offer me."
"I am very excited for what my future has to hold," he said.
