Westmoreland Co. Man Charged With Abusing Infant Son
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- An eight-month-old baby is out of the hospital after suffering three broken ribs and a broken leg.
Michael McAtee is in the care of his mother and grandmother as his father, 25-year-old Tim McAtee, is facing several charges, including aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
The baby's injuries were discovered last week at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh.
The infant's grandmother, Jamie Gunter, told KDKA-TV she can't believe anyone would do that to an infant.
She says the baby is one of her nine grandchildren.
Detectives from the Westmoreland County District Attorney's office say McAtee confessed to abusing the infant saying he had anger problems and said he knew he hurt the infant.
The baby only weighed 15 pounds. McAtee allegedly cut the baby's formula in half because it was too expensive.
Gunter says the baby is now out of the hospital and is gaining weight and crawling around.
McAtee is in jail on $50,000 bond.
