Westmoreland Co. Air Show Returns To Arnold Palmer Airport
LATROBE (KDKA) -- The Westmoreland County Air Show is back.
The show was shut down last year during a Congressional budget stalemate.
The Navy's famed Blue Angels flying team was silenced. But now they're back and raring to go, for a big weekend at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe.
"To lose it for a season, but then to get it back, it's just exciting," says Blue Angels Commanding Officer Tom Frosch. "We see record crowds. And I think everyone, including us, are just that much more excited to be out here doing it."
Airport director Gabe Monzo expects 100,000 visitors.
He says the two-day show will include, "The old warbirds, different things, static displays, a lot of things for the kids to do this weekend. It'll be great all around."
"Latrobe is a classic town where we like to bring the military to your backyard," Frosch adds. "We can't bring the Navy here with our ships, but we can bring our airplanes. And if we can bring this team to the backyards of America and hope to inspire young men and women, that's what it's all about. We're really inspired to do it."
After a year off, the Angels, and the airport, hope to reach new heights.
