Volunteers Rebuild Local Veteran's Cranberry Twp. Home

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Volunteer builders told Marine veteran Joshua Caskey they'd make a few minor repairs on his home in Cranberry Township.

Then they sent the former Staff Sergeant, and his family on vacation.

Meanwhile, their house is getting a complete makeover by builders, volunteers and fellow Marines.

"This morning, I was almost in tears when everyone came out," says Lance Corporal Leiha Davis.

"Touchdown for Homes" is a team effort, including past and present NFL players. Among the workers is Steelers legend Rocky Bleier, who was wounded in Vietnam.

"Unfortunately, at times, within the community, they come home, and we forget them," Bleier says. "We say, 'Hi, we say thank you,' but they have a life to live."

Project manager Todd Klippa says Caskey and his family were sent on a short vacation.

Meanwhile, "The whole exterior's being remodeled," Klippa says. "Landscaping, decks, new benches, play set for the kids. The whole interior's getting remodeled. Floors, kitchen, bathrooms – all to make it easier for the Caskeys."

He says the surprise will be unveiled when the family returns on Friday.

"They didn't even know where they were going, until the limousine pulled up and we sent them to Nemacolin for the week."
