Viral Photo Shows Incredible Toll Battling Wildfires Takes On Firefighters
GATLINBURG (KDKA) -- A photo going viral displays the incredible toll battling wildfires takes on firefighters.
Adam Scott Momberger posted a photo on Facebook of firefighters with the Johnson City Fire Department Tuesday night. The Johnson City Fire Department was one of many Tennessee agencies to be deployed to Gatlinburg when deadly wildfires forced thousands to evacuate.
"As close as we got to seeing sleep in 36 hours," Momberger posted.
The photo was shared nearly 30,000 times.
CBS affiliate WJHL reports Fire Chief Mark Scott said, "They had probably been up probably 18 to 30 hours by then so they were approaching a level of exhaustion. They had went to the point of having to sit down, we had some food and I guess as soon as we had the food it hit them and everybody was just kind of flaked out on the sidewalk."
