Tree Crushes Shed In Moon Township

MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A tree toppled a historic building in Moon Township.

The structure on Coraopolis Heights Road, known as the wood shed, was a story and a half tall and 60 feet long.

"Saw the wind blowing through all the trees and I was keeping my fingers crossed that they wouldn't come down," Dick Mills, the homeowner, said.

The tree, planted in 1906, fell and reduced the wood shed, built in 1908, to shards of wood.

"After all these years, it just went down like that," Nancy Patton Mills said.

The Mills hope an antique tractor from the 1950s survived.

No one was inside the shed when it was crushed. However, their son had a close call when a tree came through his window.

"We're fortunate the house didn't come down and now we just clean up the mess and start over again," Dick Mills said.

The family has insurance and has already contacted their agent so they can rebuild.
