Tomlin To Evaluate Camp As Season Progresses
LATROBE (KDKA) - The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles will clash at Hines Field on Thursday in preseason action.
Training camp at Saint Vincent College will wrap up on Wednesday. For the players and coaches, it's been anything but a normal camp.
At first, the NFL lockout threatened to eliminate training camp. Once the lockout ended, new rules eliminated two-a-days.
Veteran free agents were not allowed to practice with the team for a week. Due to the compressed offseason, new players were showing up on almost a daily basis.
Now, after 15 days of training camp, the big question is what was the team able to accomplish?
"I usually measure camps based on seasons. I think that's the appropriate way to look at it. I feel comfortable with what we've done to this point. But no question, ultimately you measure camps and productivity based on outcomes of football seasons. So, I really take a look at this camp and its structure and what we were able to do in hindsight as we proceed throughout the season," Head Coach Mike Tomlin said.
As for Thursday's game against the Eagles, Tomlin said the starters will likely play 20 to 25 snaps.
Tomlin also announced the following seven players will not be in the lineup against Philadelphia: Cortez Allen, Crezdon Butler, Mario Harvey, Chris Kemoeatu, Bryant McFadden, Emmanuel Sanders and Ike Taylor.
