Strong Winds Topple A Tree, Burying A Car In Brookline
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Strong winds uprooted a couple-hundred-foot tree on Plainview Avenue in Brookline overnight Sunday.
The homeowner, Jim Fedunok, said this happened around 4 a.m. Sunday. The tree toppled onto his car and totaled it. It caused an estimated $1,800 worth of damage to his home.
City Forester, Lisa Ceoffe, Department of Public Works, told KDKA crews will be dispatched to Plainview Avenue in Brookline as early as 6 a.m. Monday morning.
Fedunok is responsible for getting rid of the leftovers on his property, which he said cannot be done until the city cleans the street.
He said Duquesne Light had restored power.
No other homes sustained damage from this tree.
Because the tree has already fallen, there is no imminent threat of danger to the residents who live there.
Crews will send a high-lift and dump-trucks to remove the debris from the street. Plainview Ave. is open at one end. Fedunok's was a privately owned tree.
The city is not responsible for removal from the homeowner's property.
Ceoffe said the highest winds she clocked last night via a home monitor were 11mph. Public Works did receive some calls for minor wind damage and small branches.
