State Police Investigate South Huntingdon Hit & Run Crash

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- State police in Belle Vernon say they are investigating an overnight hit and run accident in Westmoreland County that sent one person to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. along Motordrome Road in South Huntingdon Township.

According to state police, the victim, who has been identified as 23-year-old Cori Amanato of West Newton, was standing outside of a vehicle stopped in the northbound lanes of the roadway when a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo pulled up beside them.

Investigators say a third vehicle then came around a blind right curve and was unable to stop. That vehicle then hit one of the stopped vehicles head on "and in the process also struck the pedestrian standing between the stopped vehicles."

Officials say after the crash the driver of one of the two vehicles initially on the scene fled.

Authorities say Amanato suffered major injuries in the accident and was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.

Anyone with information on the case is being asked to contact state police in Belle Vernon at 724-929-6262.
