Staal's Goal Lifts Pens Above Kings, 2-1 In OT
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) – The Penguins pulled out a win over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night.
The Pens, plagued with injuries, played with four call-ups from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for the game at the CONSOL Energy Center.
One of those guys, Brett Sterling, scored his first goal for the Penguins at 6:53 in the first period. Dustin Jeffrey and Nick Johnson had assists.
With 2:43 left in the period, Jarret Stoll tied the game to make it 1-1.
While neither team scored in the second, there were two fights. Deryk Englland and Kevin Westgarth battled at 7:38. Less than four minutes later, Ryan Craig and Wayne Simmonds exchanged jabs.
Brooks Orpik got a holding penalty in the third.
The game looked like it was headed for a shootout until Jordan Staal scored on Jonathan Quick on a shot set up by Pascal Dupuis with just seconds left on the clock.
Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 32 shots.
