Edgewood Towne Center shootout leaves 1 injured

A man was injured in a shootout at the Edgewood Towne Center on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The Allegheny County Police Department said 911 was notified of a shooting at the shopping center around 3 p.m. When first responders got there, they learned that two people were shooting at each other.

County police said a man was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the buttocks. Edgewood police said he had non-life-threatening injuries. County police said the second shooter ran away.

Edgewood Police Chief Sylvan Altieri said there is no reason for the public to be concerned.

"It seems like this is probably between people that know each other," Altieri said. "I don't know how well, but it definitely doesn't seem like it's a random act."

A sedan with a shattered window was parked at the scene, and a parked SUV had a bullet hole on its driver's side door. Yellow police tape also blocked off an area by the Wendy's restaurant. A witness told KDKA they heard four gunshots.

"We just looked outside, and we saw people running through the parking lot," witness Mikayla Gale said. "There was a little boy on a scooter screaming."

Gale was outside playing with her 4-year-old son when the shots rang out.

"My son's running around, we hear gunshots," she said. "So, I literally grabbed him, and we run in the house."

Police didn't immediately release any more information on Thursday, but said county detectives are initiating the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the county police tipline at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.
