School Bus Accident Victim's Family Holds Memorial Golf Outing

BUTLER, Pa. (KDKA) -- It's been only three months since a local man was killed in a violent crash when a school bus landed on his vehicle in Hampton Township.

Now, to honor his memory, his loved ones are making a difference in the community.

John Krauland would have been one of the first people to come out and support a mission like the one Saturday at the Lakevue North Golf Course in Butler County.

But this outing is for him, in his memory. The 28-year-old was killed when a school bus landed on top of his car, pinning him inside back in March.

Now, there is a foundation set up in his honor.

"It was a tragic accident, but at the end of the day, this is what means the most to his whole, entire family," said Chad Krauland, John's brother. "This huge outcome of people here, supporting this foundation and this cause."

More than 200 people attended.

The funds will go toward scholarships for high school seniors attending college. The family will also be setting up a community assistance program.

"It's very important because there's a lot of kids that what to play sports and would be really good, but they can't afford it, and that's what the fund is really for, is to just help people that can't help themselves," said Melanie Krauland, John's wife.

Krauland's family says they've only just begun the memorial golf outing. It will be an annual event, one that's building hope out of tragedy.
