Roethlisberger Expects To Play Saturday

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Despite reports that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will miss Saturday's game against St. Louis because of a high-ankle sprain, he says he'll be rested and ready to play.

"I've said many times I want to go and I will try to be ready to go," Roethlisberger said, according to the Steelers official website. "I think if you rest you obviously can hopefully improve and get yourself to a higher percentage. But I like to be out there, I want to be out there with the guys. I want to get the reps.

"I want to work on little things that we need to work on to hopefully get ready for January football."

Some reports suggested that Roethlisberger might even sit out the rest of the regular season — against St. Louis and then at Cleveland to end the year. He says, though, that he feels better than expected after playing at San Francisco Monday Night.

Roethlisberger missed most of last week's practices with a Grade 1 high-ankle sprain suffered against Cleveland on Thursday Night Football the prior week. He saw some limited practice time and ended up starting and playing every offensive snap Monday.

This time around he says the injury isn't nearly as severe.

"I didn't think I'd be able to walk yesterday and today, but actually it feels a lot better than I thought it would," he said.

Other injury news:

  • Roethlisberger (ankle), cornerback Curtis Brown (knee), running back Mewelde Moore (knee) and linebacker LaMarr Woodley (hamstring) sat out of practice Wednesday.
  • Center Maurkice Pouncey (ankle) and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (foot) were limited in practice Wednesday.
