Riders Stuck On Kennywood Coaster After Malfunction

PITTSBURGH (KDKA ) – Several people were stuck on a Kennywood ride when it stopped suddenly Tuesday afternoon.

It happened on the ride "Phantom's Revenge."

Kennywood officials say a sensor malfunctioned and the coaster automatically stopped.

"When it stopped, I was a little freaked out at first," said Tyler Brose who was on the ride. "I didn't really know what to expect, I wasn't really sure how we were going to get down."

Instead of having riders sit and wait while technicians checked out the problem, Kennywood personnel had them walk down the stairway along the coaster's lift hill.

The problem was a computer sensor that detected a car arriving at the station before it was due.

That caused the automatic stop of the other car.

The ride was back up and running about an hour later.
