Ramon Foster: I Got Switched, But Can't Tell People Exactly How To Raise Their Kids
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Steelers guard Ramon Foster joined "The Fan Morning Show" in his regular weekly spot on Tuesday to discuss Adrian Peterson's controversial use of switching to discipline his children.
Asked about the subject due to his role as the Steelers' NFLPA player rep, Foster said he personally experienced it growing up.
"It's not foreign to me," Foster said. "I've had a whooping with a switch before. I think it helped make me into the man I am now. Rest in peace my mom, but she raised us in the right way, and I commend her for that. I don't judge her raising of us at all."
He said that you can't totally control how people are going to raise their children.
"Some families are not going to lead from those ways," Foster said. "You can give guidelines for how to raise a child, but you can't tell a person how to directly raise their child because every situation is different."
Foster feels that educating players about these issues is the best way to prevent things like this happening again.
"Just knowledge of it," Foster said. "And I think that works on the NFLPA side and the NFL side. There are some underlying issues that guys are raised with, that guys inherit, because of the situation they were brought up in. These situations are something we have to have outside classes for, we have to have training for. Just the education of it, to let them know that you're going to be judged at a higher risk, or if you have this problem, we have help for you. I think that needs to be put out there more, and it will be."
Foster will join "The Fan Morning Show" every Tuesday at 8 a.m. this football season.
