Pregnant Amish Woman Killed By Lightning In Somerset Co.

SUMMIT TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- An Amish woman, who was nine months pregnant, and her unborn child were killed by lightning Tuesday morning in Somerset County.

Mary Yoder, 36, was out picking blackberries with her husband and two kids when rain began to move in, according to Trooper Scott Kovach from the Pennsylvania State Police.

Trooper Kovach says the husband and children went under one pine tree for shelter, while Yoder went under another.

Moments later, according to police, she was struck and killed.

It happened in some woods near the couple's home along Rockdale Road in Summit Township.
