Car Stolen In Pittsburgh Used In Car Chase In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (KDKA) - A vehicle involved in a chase and crash that injured two Philadelphia police officers was stolen in a carjacking last week at the Amtrak station in downtown Pittsburgh, investigators said.

Pittsburgh police said a woman was carjacked in the parking lot of the Amtrak Station on Friday night. The suspect sped away onto Liberty Avenue in her Toyota Camry.

The same car ended up in Philadelphia on Tuesday night. Around 9 p.m., a road rage suspect led Philadelphia police on a chase after they said he pointed a gun at a couple in another car.

Police pulled the 24-year-old suspect over in a white Toyota Camry less than a mile away. They said the suspect got out of the car then quickly jumped back in. Police chased the suspect until he crashed into a police SUV and two parked cars.

Chief Inspector Scott Small with the Philadelphia Police said, "When police were conducting their investigation and they ran the license plate of this Toyota Camry, it came up as stolen in a carjacking, a robbery carjacking in Pittsburgh three days ago. Also, the vehicle is wanted for a kidnapping in Pittsburgh three days ago."

Last Friday just before 8:30 p.m. at the Amtrak Station, police said the woman was sitting in her white Toyota Camry waiting for her boyfriend. The victim told police that a man jumped into the passenger side of her car and demanded cash.

When she told him that she didn't have any, she offered to pay him by Venmo. When the transfer failed, the suspect insisted that she take him to the ATM, at which point she jumped out of the car.

The suspect then grabbed the victim and threw her into the backseat. The victim escaped the moving car before the suspect drove off.

"Our suspect today is not only going to be charged with the weapons offenses and pointing a gun during a road rage incident and also fleeing from police and some assault charges by intentionally ramming police vehicles, but he is going to be investigated for the possible connection of the robbery, kidnapping, carjacking in Pittsburgh," Chief Small said.

Police haven't released the suspect's name. The investigation is ongoing.
