Pittsburgh police investigating bank robbery on the North Side
Pittsburgh police continue to investigate a bank robbery on the city's North Side.
Zone 1 officers responded around 9:35 a.m. Friday to the Citizens Bank branch in the 100 block of Isabella Street, a couple of blocks away from PNC Park, according to police. A larger police presence followed, and a search spread over several city blocks.
Preliminary information suggests a man wearing a black mask with a skull print entered the bank, displayed a firearm and demanded money.
"I was just taking a walk this morning, and I was surprised to see all the cameras and the police activity. Usually, it's pretty quiet here on a Friday morning," Jack Miner of Pittsburgh said.
The suspect fled with cash in the direction of General Robinson Street, police said.
Officers could be seen around the North Shore, from PNC Park to the river trail, near the Andy Warhol Museum and deploying a drone. The FBI was at the scene as well. Investigators said the Real Time Crime Center is tracking the suspect.
"It's pretty chill in this area, so it's not often that you see this much police action," Chancelor Humphrey of Allentown said.
"I feel like this is a pretty safe neighborhood. Not a lot of crazy activity like that, so it's surprising. I hope nobody was hurt. I hope they get him," Miner said.
An investigation and search for the suspect remain ongoing.
