Pitt vs. Syracuse Storyline

Pitt renews ties with one of its oldest eastern rivals when it travels to Syracuse this week. The teams have met 65 prior times with the Panthers holding a 32-30-3 edge in the historic series.

Pitt has defeated Syracuse five consecutive times heading into the 2010 encounter. The Panthers have won three of their past four games in the Carrier Dome dating back to the 2002 season.

The Syracuse game marks the Big East Conference opener for the Panthers. Pitt has gone 10-4 in Big East play the past two seasons, finishing tied for second in both 2008 and '09.

The Panthers are 22-10 over their last 32 games, the program's winningest stretch since the 2001-03 seasons.


TV: The Pitt-Syracuse game is the Big East Network Game of the Week and will be aired on WTAE-TV, channel 4, in Pittsburgh. Mike Gleason (play-by-play), former Pitt quarterback John Congemi (color) and Eamon McAnaney (sideline) form the broadcast crew.

PITT RADIO: The new radio home for Pitt football is 50,000-watt flagship KDKA-FM, Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan. Games are also carried on the Pitt Sports Radio Network. Bill Hillgrove (play-by-play), three-time Pitt All-American Bill Fralic (color) and John Seibel (sideline) will call the action.

The Pitt-Syracuse game will be aired on SIRIUS channel 91 (Pitt broadcast).

Pitt and Syracuse have met every year since 1955…Pitt holds a 32-30-3 advantage in the all-time series, which began in 1916...the Panthers have won seven of the past eight meetings, including 37-10 at Heinz Field last year...since 1972 (38 seasons), 16 games have been decided by a touchdown or less...the teams have played two double-overtime games this decade, including the 2000 and 2004 encounters at the Carrier Dome...the Orange triumphed in both OT games, 24-17 in 2000 and 38-31 in 2004... the Orange hold a 17-13-3 advantage in games played in Syracuse...Pitt is 5-9-1 all-time in the Carrier Dome, which opened in 1980...the Panthers have, though, won three times in their last four visits to the Dome, including 48-24 in 2002, 21-11 in 2006 and 34-24 in 2008.
