Man arrested and charged after allegedly locking a woman inside his Pittsburgh area apartment
A man is in custody and now being housed at the Allegheny County Jail on kidnapping and assault charges after being accused of holding a woman against her will in an apartment.
Burton Byrd is facing charges of kidnapping and aggravated assault, among other charges.
According to police, the victim told them that Byrd had kept her locked up in his Perry South apartment for three days, refusing to let her leave.
During those three days, she was allegedly beaten and suffered burns after Byrd continued to burn her with an iron. Those burns were suffered on about 60% of her body.
The woman told police that Byrd was "punishing" her because he believed she was cheating on him.
Her condition at this time is not known, but it is known that she is recovering.
Byrd was taken into custody and is now at the Allegheny County Jail.
