Pathologist Disbands Foundation Fueled By 'Concussion' Film

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The pathologist at the center of the Will Smith movie "Concussion" is abandoning his self-named nonprofit foundation, citing undue demands on his life and family due to publicity from the film.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports The Bennet Omalu Foundation is finished 11 months after it was founded.

Omalu discovered Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy in a former NFL football player, which led the league to adopt new safety rules designed to prevent concussions, as well as a $1 billion-plus settlement with current and former players who claim to be suffering from traumatic brain injuries.

The University of Pittsburgh partnered with Omalu on the foundation.

Omalu told the newspaper that he's "making adjustments ... to reduce the demands on my time and life, which have really gotten worse since the movie was released."
