Pa. Official Resigning After 'Threat' To Beat Man With Fake Leg

NORTH YORK, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania borough councilwoman who told a volunteer firefighter she'd beat him over the head with his prosthetic leg says she was only joking, but is resigning nonetheless.

North York Councilwoman Sandra Hinkle tells The Associated Press the controversy prompting her resignation is a "blessing in disguise" because she's tired of infighting and other contentiousness on the council.

The York Daily Record first reported that firefighter Christopher Wilhelm had begun circulating a petition calling for Hinkle's resignation. He did that after recording a Facebook Live video at a council meeting Tuesday. Wilhelm says he was trying to publicize the meeting, but Hinkle didn't like being recorded.

Hinkle says she's been involved with the fire company, too, and her joking threat stems from a long-running joke among firefighters about Wilhelm's condition.
