NYC Company May Announce Plans To Buy Iron City Beer

LATROBE (KDKA) -- The future of Iron City Beer is in doubt.

There is speculation that a private equity company based in New York City could soon announce plans to buy the iconic local brand.

Latrobe Mayor Barbara Griffin says she has not been notified of any plans to pull production of Iron City out of City Brewing in Latrobe and hopes it won't be happening any time soon.

"It would be devastating to our city," she said. "First, the tax base, plus all the men and women who work there – it would be terrible."

City Brewing Company in Latrobe has been brewing Iron City Beer since July 2009 when Iron City shut down production at its longtime home in Lawrenceville.

People in Latrobe would like production of Iron City and the jobs that go along with it to stay in town regardless of the brand's ownership.
