NFL To Use New Concussion Test Next Season
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (KDKA/AP) - The NFL announced on Wednesday the league will be using a new sideline test to determine concussions next season.
The details of the new test will be announced Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine.
The NFL did say the new sideline test will include a checklist of symptoms, a limited neurologic evaluation and a balance assessment. It will employ many components of the evaluation process developed during a Concussion in Sport meeting at Zurich in 2008.
The test was developed by the NFL's Head, Neck, and Spine Committee with input from the NFL team physicians and athletic trainers and their professional associations.
Last season a number of Steelers players suffered concussions including wide receiver Hines Ward, tight end Heath Miller, safety Will Allen and running backs Mewelde Moore and Isaac Redman.
