Earlier this week we noted that Aliquippa elected to play its WPIAL Football Playoff opener at Ambridge's Moe Rubenstein Stadium, citing concerns over field conditions at "The Pit" (a.k.a. Carl Aschman Stadium).

Because the Quips are the home team, it is their right to host the game at a neighboring venue if they see fit, as long as they give the WPIAL enough notice. On Wednesday another team notified the WPIAL it will not play its First Round game on its own campus.

No. 8 seed Penn Hills is slated to host No. 9 seed Seneca Valley in a Class AAAA First Round contest kicking off Friday night at 7:30 on ROOT Sports. The Indians have opted to host the game at Plum Stadium at Plum High School instead of Andrew Yuhas Stadium, due to similar concerns over field conditions.

Meanwile, the next matchup to be featured in "The UPMC Centers for Rehab Services Game of the Week" on SportsRadio 93.7 The Fan has been confirmed. No. 5 seed Gateway will host No. 12 seed Shaler at Gateway's Antimarino Stadium in Class AAAA First Round action Friday night.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30, with Lanny Frattare and Bob Orkwis on the call, and pre-game coverage hosted by the MSA Sports Network's Don Rebel beginning at 6:00.

For continuing coverage of the 2011 WPIAL Football Playoffs, be sure to keep visiting the "Mr. High School Sports" blog, and tune into "The UPMC Centers for Rehab Services High School Football Show," presented by ROOT Sports and hosted by John Phillips, Saturday morning at 7:00 on 93.7 The Fan.
