Mother, Baby Caught In Crossfire But Uninjured When Shots Ring Out In Marshall-Shadeland
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A family with a young child became caught in the crossfire when gunfire rang out Thursday in the city's Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood.
Crystal Dean has heard gunshots near her home in the past, but Thursday morning, bullets came dangerously close to hitting her daughter, granddaughter and a 5-month-old baby inside her van parked in front of her house on Woodland Avenue.
The van had four bullet holes.
"I could have lost them easily, a few inches. You see the bullets," said Dean.
Dean's 21-year-old granddaughter had just placed her infant in a child seat, her other daughter was near the van. They had just arrived home and were going back out.
Dean went inside for a minute, and that's when a gunman started shooting.
"No sooner I get up to the top of the steps, I hear, 'pop, pop, pop, pop,' and I thought it was firecrackers till I hear her screaming, 'They're shooting, they're shooting,'" Dean said.
Authorities say they believe the gunman was following two young men walking on the sidewalk, heading to a nearby home when he opened fire. Fortunately, no one was shot.
Arthur Rhone, a neighbor, came outside and carried the baby inside his neighbor's house. He says the gunman was after two young men who were coming to his house to visit his son.
"They just had made it to right there, and they started shooting, and they ran in the doorway," said Rhone.
On Saturday, a 17-year-old was shot outside on Rhone's front porch. He says the victim is friend with his daughters
"I'm worried, I'm real worried. I'm going to have to move again it looks like," said Rhone.
No arrests have been made.
The suspect is described as a light-skinned African American male with a mustache who has a medium build. He is believed to have been wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and black or blue pants.
