Milwaukee Defends Its 'Rename Pittsburgh Avenue' Contest

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - The City of Milwaukee is holding a contest to rename a street in their city, but the name of the street in question is irking Pittsburghers.

Milwaukee wants to rename "Pittsburgh Avenue," because the name doesn't reflect the vision the city had for the neighborhood Pittsburgh Avenue is in. Is this a knock at the Burgh? An anti-Steelers or Pirates stance? Do people in Milwaukee just not like Pittsburgh?

KDKA-AM's Larry Richert finds out what is going on in Milwaukee with Rocky Marcoux, a commissioner for the City of Milwaukee's Department of City Development. Is the street renaming contest spiteful, or just city planning?

Rocky Marcoux says that anyone can submit a name for Pittsburgh Avenue, even Pittsburghers.

Visit the website at www.milwaukee.gov/nameastreet. Rocky says they'll even keep it Pittsburgh Avenue if enough votes for it come in- so get voting!
