Marshall: Young Defense Prospects Close To Being NHL-Ready
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)- The Penguins concluded their annual development camp Saturday with a scrimmage at Consol Energy Center. The Penguins have a lot of highly-touted defense prospects, and Jesse Marshall of Faceoff-Factor.com told Colin Dunlap that they aren't far away from being NHL-ready.
"These aren't kids that are going to need a large amount of seasoning," Marshall said. "I think for all of them just that adaptation to the pro game is going to be necessary, playing against guys that are a little bit bigger." Marshall added that Olli Maata already has a year of pro hockey under his belt from playing in Finland. Marshall said that if the Penguins are in a pinch, any one of those prospects could make their debut this year.
The Penguins' prospect depth at forward is a little thinner. One forward prospect who stood out at the camp was Jayson Megna. Marshall said that the spotlight will be on Megna this season.
"He certainly would be a great depth player for this organization, with an energy and power forward kind of approach to the game," Marshall said. "I think that if you need a guy that you can plug in for some energy, he's certainly one you might look at."
