West Chester team loses 1st Little League Baseball World Series game, plays again Monday
All eyes were glued to the TV Friday night in West Chester, Pennsylvania, as the East Side Little League team played in the Little League Baseball World Series.
The 12-and-under team from Chester County is giving it everything they have in Williamsport, and some of their fans packed Saloon 151 on West Gay Street to cheer the team on from afar.
East Side lost to the team from Bayonne, New Jersey, Friday, but they're not out of the tournament yet.
"This is awesome. This is what East Side Little League is all about, bringing the community together and having a good time," one fan said.
Aside from the nerves, the excitement was high as people in West Chester watched the local kids play on the big stage.
"I can't imagine how they are feeling. Being at the big stage, working so hard for us, we want them to win," one person said.
If the team wins the whole tournament, they would be the first Pennsylvania team since 1960 to do so.
But win or lose, it's all about the experience and, most of all, having fun on the diamond.
The tournament is double-elimination, so once a team loses twice, they'll go home. The LLBWS championship, which will feature the winner from the U.S. and International brackets, is scheduled for Aug. 30.
The East Side team's next game is Monday at 7 p.m. and will air on ESPN.
