PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Not everybody likes to eat at home on Thanksgiving Day, which is why a number of restaurants are open on the holiday.
"People like to go out on the holidays," said Deborah Lovelace, a restaurant manager. "Sometimes they get larger groups. They don't want to cook for that many people, and it's easier to go out."
To meet that need, more local restaurants offer buffets or fixed price dinners, including:
- Capital Grille
- Mitchell's Fish Market
- Terrace Room
- Wooden Nickel
Restaurants at all three area casinos are open -- the Rivers, Meadows and Nemacolin -- and you can also dine on the Gateway Clipper's Majestic.
Houlihan's in Station Square has a buffet with turkey and gravy, of course, but other choices, too.
"We're going to have a fresh cut roast beef, homemade meat loaf, hand-breaded chicken fingers, our sliders," said Lovelace.
She says employees volunteer to work Thanksgiving because the tips are bigger.
Besides eating out on Thanksgiving Day, another popular spot -- how about the local bar -- where a lot of folks would rather drink than go out on Thanksgiving night and spend money shopping.
"My bar will fill up usually around 6:30 or 7 when people start to do their shopping, and husbands like to come over and hide out here," said Susie Seigler, a bartender.
