PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A man is recovering after he was stabbed during a fight outside a club in Station Square.
Police were called to Whim nightclub just before 2:30 a.m. Friday where they found a group of people fighting in the parking lot and one man covered in blood.
Things could've been a lot worse for the victim had it not been for a young woman who happened to be there. Clarice Burse knew just what to do.
And following the incident, she has a message for the victim's family.
"I just wanted to let them know I tried my best and I'm glad that he survived," said Burse. "He's in my prayers and he was a strong young man."
Burse was at Whim nightclub when the incident happened. She saw the stabbing victim, identified as William Murphy, covered in blood.
"He ran over with his hand across his chest, like, 'He stab me he stab me,'" Burse said.
Burse is studying to be a first responder at CCAC North Side. Her EMS training kicked in right away.
"I applied pressure and kept talking to him to keep him alert, and kept him on his side so the blood could run out of his mouth so it wouldn't fill up in his throat and he couldn't breathe. It was a lot, a lot of blood," said Burse. "I was scared. I was up all night. I didn't know if he was going to make it or not, but I tried my best to keep him alive while I was on the scene until the paramedics got there."
Murphy was later taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital in critical condition.
He is expected to survive.
