HARMAR TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - For more than 40 years, a 150-room hotel along Freeport Road in Harmar Township served guests traveling the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
However, that hotel closed last week and a company from Ohio has been brought in to sell everything found inside.
"There's nothing here that is not for sale. This building is going to be torn down. We are selling all the guest room furniture, the sheets, the towels, the kitchen equipment, the restaurant equipment," Donald Hayes with National Content Liquidators said.
It's a garage sale on steroids for the Quality Inn Pittsburgh North Hotel.
"The pool and patio furniture, the pool pumps, PTech units which are the air conditioner, the air conditioner units off the top of the roof units, the commercial laundry, virtually everything you see -- the rocks out front, it's all for sale," Hayes said.
Thousands of bed linens, towels, clock radios, even the irons from every room must be gone. The hotel will be torn down in a matter of months and this liquidation sale runs just 30 days.
Hayes said everything in this hotel is for sale and sometimes it's like a scavenger hunt. For instance, in a back corner, back behind the kitchen, is this old mixer from the early 1900's. It's $1,850, but you know what? It still runs, and it will cost you about a fifth of what a new one would cost these days.
"We probably do 70 percent mom and pop, just the general person off the street, and then we do a 30 percent commercial business -- other hotelIers that buy the laundries and the kitchen equipment, stuff like that," Hayes said.
People lined up early to be the first ones through the property -- searching for deals and hauling it home.
"We only take cash, Master Card, Visa and American Express, but we sell everything on an as is, where is basis. That means, if you buy a dresser or something like that out there in the guest rooms, it's your responsibility to take it home. If you can't take it home with you today, you have 24 hours to come back and pick it up," Hayes said.
Cashiers are on hand at the hotel from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon until 5 p.m. on Sundays.
