Since 2003, PRC has collected and safely disposed of more than 4 ½ million pounds of household chemicals from 46,000+ Pennsylvania households.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, an average home can easily accumulate 100 pounds of "household hazardous waste." Homeowners typically find hazardous products in five areas of their homes: the kitchen, bathroom, garage, workshop and garden.
The South Park event is the fifth of six collections sponsored by PRC throughout the summer and fall. The 2015 household chemical collection campaign is a project of the Pennsylvania Resources Council in conjunction with The Heinz Endowments, UPMC, Colom Foundation, AAA East Central, Pennsylvania American Water, LANXESS, PA Department of Environmental Protection, NOVA Chemicals, Allegheny County Health Department, Beaver County, Cambria County, Washington County and NewsRadio 1020 KDKA.
