Guard Accused Of Running Down Woman Turns In Self

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A young woman was hit by a car last week and claimed the driver - a guard at the Allegheny County Jail - never attempted to avoid her.

That guard turned herself in Tuesday morning, but her attorney said this is all an accident.

Erica Williams' attorney made it clear there was a relationship between the two women at one time. But, he said what happened between her and the alleged victim had nothing to do with intent and was an accident.

Williams walked out of her arraignment Tuesday morning a free woman for now. She is charged with attempted criminal homicide and other serious counts.

Washington County Police said she tried to run down and kill Jolene Anderson. Williams' attorney disagrees.

This was completely an accident. In no way shapre or form did my client ever, ever intend to harm anyone let alone this young lady," David Shrager said.

Anderson claims Williams tried to kill her after she ended a long-term relationship with her back on March 26 in Washington. Williams' attorney said there was an ending of a relationship, but it has nothing to do with the accident.

"Certainly, these two were engaged in a relationship and that relationship had emotions - negative emotion and positive emotions on both sides," Shrager said.

For now, Williams is free on $100,000 unsecured bond and is not allowed in Washington County other than with her lawyer. She also cannot have contact with the victim.

"She is considered a great corrections officer has a history of discipline and now this is affecting her on many levels. This is very trying for her," Shrager said

Williams is currently suspended without pay from her job as a corrections officer and faces a preliminary hearing on April 16.
