Gov. Corbett Talks About Assessments, Port Authority & More

PITTSBURGH (NEWSRADIO 1020 KDKA) -- Gov. Tom Corbett has been busy during his first year of being in office, and issues in Western Pa. have been part of that busy schedule.

KDKA AM's Larry Richert and John Shumway talk to Gov. Corbett about Allegheny County assessments, big cuts in Port Authority service, Marcellus Shale issues and more.

On the property assessment mess in Allegheny County, Corbett said:

"It is tough for a governor to do anything in this matter. Some governors have talked about doing it, but very tough to do it because it's really a local problem.

"Do I believe we need to take a look at this statewide and do it and come up with some assessment parameters, yeah, I do believe we need to do that, and some timeframes, because what the problem is is if you don't do reassessments on a regular basis - five, six, 10 years - your assessment gets out of whack, but that's the case in counties all over Pennsylvania. And what we really need to control is not only the assessment, you need to control the millage. "
